SELF DISCOVERY: SLOW AND STEADY

S

Have you ever stopped to think exactly what you want from life? If you ever considered this question, you might have taken this first step toward self-discovery but haven’t discovered a path toward achieving your primary goals.

Your values, dreams, traits, and talent may not always seem to matter much in the rush of daily life. But awareness of these features can give you many pictures of your inner self.

If you’ve gotten to a point in life where you start asking yourself, “Who am I, really?” self-discovery can help you get to know yourself better. Self-discovery might sound like a big and intimidating concept, but in reality, it’s just a process of examining your life, figuring out what’s missing, and taking steps toward fulfilment.

There’s no better time for self-discovery than the present. I have picked out some of the processes of self-discovery which may help you reach your full potential.

Visualizing your ideal self

If your life has gone smoothly due to the guidance of your parents, teachers, friends, and others’ recommendations. You might not have given your true self much consideration in this case.

Many individuals define themselves by their affiliation with others or what they’ve always done, never considering the possibility of anything different.

You do not necessarily need to start with a complete picture after all; your journey is all about discovering what the whole picture is.

Try asking yourself things like:

What do I want from life?

Where do I see myself in 5 years? 10?

What do I regret?

What makes me proud of myself?

The answers to these questions can give you a starting place.

Working on your passion

Passions will help give life a purpose and make it rich and meaningful. Living out your passion may involve identifying your desired job and the steps needed for a career change.

Remember that passions do not always have to be related to professional interests. Give a thought to what you spend your free time doing daily. Answer the question of what excites you and brings joy to your life.

Take some time to consider what you enjoy doing and look forward to the most. It will help you discover ways to enrich your life.

Learn something new

Learning works best when it is regarded as a lifelong process. Whether you take a class, learn from someone, or even teach yourself a new skill, expanding your knowledge is always wise. If you have always wanted to learn more about something new in particular, take the time to study and understand it.

The bottom line is that discovering your true self seems different for everyone, but not something you achieve overnight. But then, you have somewhat of a jump start since you already know a little about yourself. But it still takes time and patience. Take it slow and steady; it’s like getting to know someone else.

You’re in charge of the journey; the more ground you cover through self-discovery, the more you’ll discover about yourself.
