The Veterans of Living

T

Today I saw an “elaborate” ghastly accident on my way to work. A truck carrying cement was turned upside down with it’s sixteen tires facing up. I did not see any bodies. I hoped they were no bodies. I found out that the driver of the other car in the collision broke his neck. I do not know how a humans body works when a neck is broken, but I find myself hoping the owner survives the accident.

You see an accident or the death of anyone always calls to question the futility of life. what even is in this life.

So I asked a few people what they thought of life

Blackie the confused: Do you enjoy this life?

Akuoma: Yes I do. Even if it is hard.

Lisa: Yes, I do. It is not that bad.

Lizzy: Yes I do.

Chinenye: What do you enjoy about life?

Akuoma: Food.

Lisa: It is always going to get better. So yes.

Lizzy: Horizontal dance (ermm give it a thought).

What I like about life is the promise, discoveries and people. Good people. Good kind people make me happy. I hope I am always good and kind to them in return too. That I never take their kindness for granted.

The unknown, I suppose, the finality of death is really sad. But somehow I like the idea of it. That your journey ends. So you know time is limited. That all the choices you have to make is here and now and that tomorrow could never be yesterday. And today is simply all you have. The clarity of that is why you do your absolute best to reduce your incidences of regret.
