The Big 3’s of Life

T

It was a chilled day at work and all of a sudden, here comes the lingering debate on who the biggest afro-beat artist is. At the heart of this are my work colleagues; Belema, a sworn member of the Wizkid’s FC nation, and Sayo a loyal daughter of the 30BG family. Who wins an argument against a Nigerian??? Good thing both are…

Amidst all these, their fantasies didn’t fascinate me as my music fave doesn’t sing to the Afrobeat genre. Well, back to Afrobeat, I will rank Burna Boy as the “001” as I think he blends creativity and art into his craft more than the others. Well, as they’d say, I’m entitled to my opinion .

Very importantly, these 3 Artists are considered the Big 3’s in the music world of Afrobeats. Sometimes, I sit to wonder who unanimously awards these titles. Could that be what prompted the thriving artist Rema to declare himself an Afrobeat giant, and create a niche for himself within the title “Big 4”? 3 speaks of the Earth’s perfect number, so we can lay the “Big 4” issue to rest.

Strange to myself aware jovial personality, my work folks consider me an “overly serious-minded person”, a shock even to me. Well on this day, on a serious-minded day to work , the thought of the essence of the number “three (3)” slammed my mind and refused to let go. It now seemed as though my life and all others were centered and determined by what I will refer to as the “Big 3’s of life”; “Time, Money, and Health”.

Life gave a good number of us two of the big 3’s to begin with, time and health. Even though we can’t say how much time we have to live, statistically we can agree that a 3-year-old kid has more time compared to a 50-year-old adult by putting together the average lifespan of a gender or race and the chances of health complications within these age groups. If you’re among the few that started life with all the big 3’s then here is a handshake to congratulate you on being so lucky and an admonition to make wise use of it because you’re in a very minute percentage of the human race, and to the ones who started life having just one of the big 3’s I hope the universe works in your favor and adds to your number or give you an edge to supplement for your disadvantage.

Now to the age-long debate, just like the one my colleagues usually have at work, which is the most important? Health? Money? Or time? To a Teni fan vibing to the “’ I’d rather be crying in a Bently” line from her recent song “Money” it has to be money. To a 50year old who always had a dream to be a football star but had to choose a different career part due to security, to be younger once again and take more risk will be his desire, how about a bedridden 30year old who has to be assisted out of bed to carry out the basic functions of life, health will be the most important thing to such person.

In my perspective, the most important of the big 3’s of life depends on the stage you are in life and your needs at that moment, if you argue that it is health, what will you say to the man who is healthy but climbs the bridge to commit suicide because his bills and family responsibilities have driven him to depression. Just like the participants in the squid game movie, everyone is entitled to which one among the big 3’s is most important to them and has the freedom to press the red or blue button.

I hope we don’t have to make a choice among these 3, and that we are able to balance our pursuit for them in proportion to how much we need each. I’d rather be smiling in a Bentley and I don’t want to choose my fave from the big 3’s of life, it’s not Afro-beat. Cheers to finishing strong.
